Memories

"The Storm". Painting by Francesco Guardi.

A painting very similar to the one about used to hang in my grandfather's studay when I was a kid. There was something so melancholic about the painting that used to indimidate me so much that I woke up at nights in a pool of sweat. The paints was pretty simple, a huge mast ship in the midst of a raging storm. It was not the subject that ailed me but the colors, they seemed to suck out the all the energy from the spectator, putting him in the same despair that people aboard the ship might have been feeling. Thats one of the strongest evidences I have seen of colors being used to convey emotions. Sadly this picture dosen't dosent potray the helpless I felt after seeing the painting that hung on the wall. I have changed a lot since I saw that painting first. I am no longer afraid of water, I can swim pretty well. But even now when I think of the painting on the wall, a shudder passes through me. Just thinking about it transforms me to a state of helplessness and saps aways all my energy and mirth.

Have you ever felt something similar?

hi, I never felt such thing with colours but whenever I see a lot of water flowing down, even in heavy rains, that causes problems, to work upon it I learnt swimming, it worked a little bit...

Shruti: No sorry and all da :) Godspeed with your NGO...

Dhaval: Nothing? Not a painting but not even something else that has aroused intense emotions in you while they normally wouldnt? Nice blog you got there.

Mark IV: I was too, but now I like colors more :)

STM: Woah, thats what I was looking for. Btw where do you stay, I wouldnt dare go anywhere near that place, lest the tree attacks me ;)

Aditi: Don't worry girl, that should pass too. Try swimming a lot and you wont be afraid of the water :)

yeah we associate feelings with every object we come across, sometimes consciously. the first time i listened to a particular song,i was in a very depressed state. no matter how many times i listen to it again and no matter how much i try, it always brings back the exact feeling of darkness in me.after 4 years!

paintings do bring some feelings in me but MUSIC makes me explode with emotion. and i'm an artist myself. a combination of beautiful bright colours fascinates me

Sharad: Yeah they do. Lots of times I would have clicked a pic keeping something in mind and later when I was processing it something striking came up which was much better than the main subject itself

Nitya: And if these feeling are associated with someone who is no longer in our lives its even worse

Asya: Thanks for coming by. Music heals our souls and gives strength, Mostly :) I have a color blog, maybe'll you'll like to contribute ?

Yes a few things do have such an impact on you... especially so on a tender mind at a tender age. I had such an experience as a kid... though it was not a real one, but a dream... I dont know if it had any stimulus in the real world... But I used to dream about this small dot, a small black spec that is growing and growing slowly yet surely inch by inch... till there is very little space left and the it kind of swallows the entire universe and would burst anytime... I would wake up drenched in sweat after that dream and would run to my aunt to sleep with her. That was the closest I have been to the feeling u described. :-)

Meenakshi: Nice to see you back. Hopefully you had a great trip to Delhi :) I had a similar dream that I think I had written about earlier. It had to do with a bridge and endless expanse of water :) Recurring nightmare for a major part of my childhood...
